Radware Makes Campus Networks 'Application-Smart' for 100,000 Students Back In School Around the World

MAHWAH, NJ September 12, 2005 02:00 PM

Radware, (NASDAQ: RDWR) the leading provider of application delivery solutions for assuring fast, reliable, and secure networked applications, today announced that educational institutions around the world are successfully using Radware application-smart switches to keep students connected and learning around the clock. The various implementations of Radware's DefensePro, LinkProof and WSD products help ensure the availability, performance and security of campus-wide networks, safeguarding a combined total of almost 100,000 students, faculty and employees from viruses, worms, and denial of service (DoS) attacks, and keeping networked applications up and running 24/7. Some of the schools that have deployed Radware products include:

  • The Education Bureau of Yi-Lan County in Taiwan implemented Radware's DefensePro for real-time DoS and worm protection to ensure continuous availability of all the university application, and Radware's LinkProof for content-level bandwidth management to ensure fast application response times. The deployments are part of the second generation network project within the Yi-Lan Campus Network
  • Concordia University in Wisconsin deployed Radware's LinkProof and WSD to ensure continuous remote access to the university's mission critical applications; (see related release on Concordia University)
  • Keimyung University in Korea, one of the largest state-run universities in Korea, implemented Radware's 10-gigabit intrusion prevention interface, DefensePro 3000, for high-speed interception of harmful traffic such as Internet worms, viruses and malicious codes.

More than 60,000 students are enrolled in 108 K-12 schools in Taiwan, making the Yi-Lan Education Bureau one of the largest local government departments. It is also the first international BS7799 certified county-level education network service provider in the country. The Bureau sought out a solution to protect its main campus network and provide high throughput speeds to all of the schools connected to the network, while providing highly available connectivity.

"We tested and reviewed several application security solutions for this critical function. Radware provided us with the most reliable and secure solution, protecting not only our main campus network, but providing comprehensive protection and connectivity for each of the 108 school locations," said Ming-Yi Hsia, MIS director for the Yi-Lan Education Bureau. "We were also impressed with the flexible customization and rapid support response we received from Radware's service team."

Named by U.S. News & World Report as "one of the Best Colleges 2005," Concordia University of Wisconsin is one of 10 universities in the Concordia University System responsible for ensuring the availability and optimized performance of all email, Web access and administrative systems for more than 5,200 students. To ensure secure, uninterrupted network performance, Concordia University deployed Radware's LinkProof and WSD.

"Having been burned in the past by an outage and a multiple day loss of production, we needed a solution that would ensure continuous remote accessibility to our mission critical applications. Radware had the products we needed. In addition, their solution eliminates bottlenecks while delivering 24/7 link availability," said Mark Newhouse, director of computing operations, Concordia University. "Since we added LinkProof and WSD into our infrastructure, we have not encountered a single outage."
Keimyung University in Korea built a campus-wide 10-gigabit high-speed backbone network to accommodate more than 27,000 students and 90 departments in nine faculties and 19 colleges. As a result, users have a continuous and secure connection to university resources. The university needed a comprehensive, feature-rich, 10-gigabit level, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) to support and protect this new environment.

"After reviewing other IPS' on the market today, we found Radware's DefensePro to be the only product capable of supporting our 10-gigabit backbone network environment," said Jae-Yeal Nam, director of information and communication at Keimyung University. "Our campus' IT network now has a competitive advantage as a direct result of implementing this cutting edge security solution."

"At institutions of higher learning across the world, networks have become an essential educational resource and medium to support learning and for sharing information between students, faculty, and employees," said Dr. Michelle Blank, Radware's new chief marketing officer. "The reason for Radware's global traction with education IT decision makers is because we have a proven solution for enabling them to get the most out of their networks by delivering high value to their end-users with networked applications that are reliable, secure and always available."
